John 19:38–42

38After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea (who was a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews) asked Pilate for permission to take away the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, and so Joseph came and took away his body. 39Nicodemus (who earlier had come to Jesus by night) also came and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds. 40Then, they took Jesus’ body and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews. 41Now, there was a garden at the place where Jesus had been crucified. In the garden, there was a new tomb in which no one had ever yet been laid. 42Then, because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
